How to cope some months?

$

Expensive months when already in debt!? Aargh, just does me in really. Had 3 family birthdays close together, one for my Mum's and other for my (long suffering) good lady, another with my brother!

So hard to cope when you've been desperate to save money and you get 3 things that cost a bomb! I know they would all offer to pay for anything, but I'd hate myself so much if I made them pay at their own birthday meals etc!

To top it off had my wallet stolen when out two days ago - didn't cost me massively, but there was money there too now lost! I think I'm starting to lose it (my head)!

My long term situation looks awful - likely a drop in income rather than any pickup. So, I'm basically depressed about that too.

Had to vent, rather depressively, so apologies. :o

But how do people cope with months when the money goes out, regardless of all intents and purpose!? :(

Letter received re debt from 2011

Hi All
I have received a letter from Rockwell re a debt with HSBC from 2007. As far as I am aware the debt was paid off in 2011 - long story but in a nutshell I got a loan for an ex - he assured me he had paid it off in 2011, I didn't hear anything else from them and was busy being pregnant therefore didn't check too closely - not hearing anything though put my mind at rest that it had been paid.
Anyway, it looks like it hasn't, so what is my best course of action? Do I offer a repayment plan? Its for £4k and I'm a single parent so it won't be a massive amount each month. Am I right in thinking though that as long as I am offering something I won't get the bailiffs etc coming around? I was thinking around the £10 per month mark
Thanks all

Please help if you can !!!

hi folks

ive just had the worst week of my life. i am in debt to the tune of 48k on unsecured loans and after months of burying my head in the sand i finally told my wife who was unaware of it. she knew of about 1/3 of the debt but i had convinced her that i was on top of it.

anyway i have a secure job and 2 kids and a mortgage and the payments are £800 for next 5 years approx which i cannot afford - ive been able to do so up to now using the loan surplus in my account (how terrible /stupid is that) but very shortly i will not be able to afford.

i have met with a free non profit debt organisation here in belfast who have advised me to go the route of IVA.

im looking for some help with this and if anyone can take me through their own experience of them good and bad i would be much appreciated . things i am looking to find out include

- reputable firms (Grant thornton have been advised but have read a lot of unsatisfactory posts)
- how an iva is monitored (what exactly happens - ie do i put all my earnings into a new account which is fully visible to all)
- how to come up with realistic figures for the financial statement and are these queried if you do not exceed the trigger point limits.
- il be very happy to live a simpler life for the rest of my days but will i be able to save any money in an iva for very small
- my house has some equity in it at the minute - will this be taken off me after year 5 or is it more common to pay for the extra year.

anything else that you can add that may be of help i would be much appreciated. anyway im feeling pretty ashamed of the hurt i have caused to my family and vulnerable so would appreciate any words of wisdom that you may have

thanks

Tom

How to get information from ross & roberts

Hi I have a debt with Ross & Roberts with 1 final payment left. I have phoned them today asking if they can give me some details as by my records I don't have as much to pay as they are telling me. I asked if they could tell me over the phone or at least email with a summary of my account so I can check the details. Was told they didn't have the information and they would have to post it to me.
Have 2 things I wondered if anyone could help me with

1. who has my information if a phone call to the company can not get me any more details other than end balance, they would not even give me a starting balance.

2. my last payment should be on 14th and don't know if I should pay it as I think its wrong because by my reckoning I have overpaid by £98.

I want to get this account and balance closed but can ill afford to make any more payments that I would no doubt have trouble getting back if I am right.

Any help or advice greatfully recieved

Settled debts, credit reports and bank statements

Hello

I've been in a very fortunate position to be able to clear all my debts last week in full. I paid all my creditors in full on Thursday and Friday.

I've checked my online banking and only a few payments are showing, how long should I wait before chasing the companies if at all?

Also how long will it take for them to show as settled on my credit report? I'm in no hurry to get anymore credit and won't anyway due to very poor credit scores but I just wondered.

Thank you

Have no idea whats the best way to manage my debt!

Hi guys, hope you can help!

I have three types of debt
1. I have an overdraft of approx £700
2. Credit card of £600
3. Car finance, £2000 remaining.

I'm not as worried about the car finance, I'm paying £200 off per month no problem.

The credit card and overdraft I'd really like to clear and put into some sort of loan account/credit card and set a monthly repayment over about 18 months.

What would the best option be?

Thanks so much everyone!

Help getting back on top of finances

Hi all

just looking for advice, for stupid reasons I won't go into, we are behind on a couple of debts, I cannot for the life of me seem to get back on top, whether it's a cash flow problem i'm not quite sure.

I get paid monthly and my husband weekly and it causes me such a headache!!

Anyone got any advice, do you think creditors would give us say a months grace to try and build up a little buffer to get back on top of things to start the month on an even keel? Anyone got any experience of this atall?

We have enough money coming in but it appears I either don't spread the direct debits out correctly or i'm just really rubbish with money.

I already have YNAB but even then it doesn't seem to work for me.

Any positive help appreciated.

Need advice on negotiating debt with credit card companies

I saw a money advisor from the citizen's advice bureau the other day because I've been made redundant and am finding it hard to pay my credit card bills.

The lady said they can write to the credit card companies on my behalf and suggest that I make a £1 token payment every week for a few months.

Although this arrangement would be very convenient for me, I'm concerned about its impact on my credit rate.

How do the credit card companies normally deal with such requests? Any advice pls?

Cheers

Please help- sister took debt out in my name and don't know what to do

I checked my credit file and to cut a long story short discovered that my sister had taken out an account with a catalogue, using my name back in August 2011.

The debt was for £245. Another long story short but my family emotionally blackmailed me into not reporting my sister for fraud (this is was I wanted to do). The debt is now paid off (by my mum I might add, NOT my sister!) however I now have 3 defaults on my file with regards to this debt.

Prior to this my partner and I were looking to buy our first house; this is now not an option because of these defaults.

My question is: is there any way to have these debts disassociated from me and linked to my sister, now that I have paid the debt off?
I'm almost certain that my sister would be happy to write a letter to the debt collection agency to explain what she did. She is the kind of person that doesn't consider repercussions, she doesn't care what goes on her credit file!
If she wouldn't do this then I am now emotionally strong enough to report her for fraud (sadly at the time I found out about the debt I wasn't this strong). She has also done this to my other sister and my mum.

I feel like I was pushed into not reporting her in the first place. I just want this to be off of my file so I can try and get on with my life and my plans to buy a house.

I would really appreciate any advice that people have about this.

Tuesday 12th Aug - What small DFW things will you be doing today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

Lowell Debt Letter - Asking for Information

$

Hi

I received a letter from Lowell Portfolio regarding a debt dating from 2009 with three (the mobile company).

For various convoluted reasons, I disputed the debt at the time with three, and then have subsequently disputed it through another agency that had attempted to collect it, maybe three years ago now. I heard nothing more from them since then.

Now Lowells seems to have bought the debt and are trying again/anew.

I've responded using the standard "prove it" letter, quoting their reference, (by email).

Today Lowells have responded asking for personal information about me - address and post code (which seems bizarre given they've already sent me a letter) and my date of birth.

Why are they asking for this information if they are confident enough to send me a letter asking for money?

Should I give it? Or ignore the email? Or re-iterate that it's their job to prove that I owe it - why should I help them!

Any advice gratefully received!

I'm also aware that the statute barred date is impending - January 2015 will be the 6 year anniversary of what they are calling the "default" which I have never accepted responsibility for.

Help required please with Payday Lenders

$

Hi all

I am hoping somebody can help me.

I have been really stupid, and I have accumulated 3 payday loans over the last 12 months, which I can no longer afford to pay back.

Pounds to Pocket have been very understanding, and have agreed to a payment plan, and ot review this in 6 months.

Wonga and Lending Stream are being really unhelpful. I have sent them 10 emails each, with a schedule off my debts and full income and outgoings. I have confirmed what I can afford to pay, and I have requested their bank details. They are now simply not responding, and I do not wish to call them as it will result in nothing being achieved.

I now I have been silly, but I had severe depression when I took out the loans and stuck my head in the sand. My income is now £700 less per month as I have had to take a lower paid job, as I was made redundant. I do want to pay this money back, but I cannot do this without their bank details.

Can anybody please confirm how I proceed next. I am emailing them everyday at the moment and I am getting no response. If I post a cheque they will more than likely not encash it.

I now I deserve this, but I could really do with some help. I just want to sort my life out and this is a good start.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Bank overdraft sold on

$

Hi guys,

I know this is silly and my fault but essentially what's happened to me is that I didn't notice that one of my accounts since xmas went over my overdraft (£100) and has since become over £500. I may have gotten a letter from the bank but honestly I am unsure, I didn't see it.

I agree this is some debt and it's my fault but I don't think I can get the amount lowered via my bank Natwest anymore as it has been sold onto Moorcroft Debt Recovery, I asked if I could speak to them about it and they said no, there's no point speaking to Natwest now, it's been sold to them.

I get around £55 a week and on the phione they basically wanted £22.50, I could maybe do it but that's pretty much it with my bills and it's a lot for something I feel is unjust but also my fault it got to this point. The lady didn't seem to like the idea of £10, just to show I am making a payment until I start making some cash and get back into work.

I am guessing I'll have to pay this. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how I could maybe minimise the cost? Can I contact Natwest about it?

Just looking for advice, thoughts... thanks.

I am also interested in any ideas you might have to postpone my responsibility a bit until I am working. They don't want to put a hold on it.

edit: Also been doing some research... my first point of order should be to ring them and say I want written communication in future?

Hi all,
Had an old loan with hsbc from about 12 years ago. i did a debt managment plan about 10 years ago and hsbc froze interest and made smaller payments over longer time. and since then the debt keeps getting passed from company to company i still owe just over £1000. I heard if the debt keeps getting passed along you can write to the most recent company and ask them to provide you with your orginal credit agreement and if they don't have it the debt can be wiped is this true?
Thanks

Opening bank account without ID check at Credit Reference Agency

$

The Background:

I have some debt and am being pursued by a debt collection company which has resulted in sending a summons to my address - it's been returned unopened.

I have read about this debt collection company and firm of solicitors which have issued the summons and they employ dirty tactics such as sending a summons to a previous address so that judgement is entered in default as the defendant isn't able to respond to the summons.

They then send bailiffs around to the new address.
I'm nearly 6 years into this debt matter and close to it being statute barred.

I expect this to happen and have little defence against it, I then think there is a possibility that they might try to recover the debt by freezing my bank account (interim debt order) so I want to prepare for this by setting up a new bank account.

The thing I'm worried about is setting up a new bank account and having the bank carry out an ID check against a credit reference agency and the credit reference agency recording the ID check has been carried out and then the debt collection agency then discovering that.

So I have two questions:
1) Can the debt collection agency see the ID checks on the credit report which are requested/carried out by other organisations? ( I'm aware of the idea of there being hard and soft checks).

2) Does anyone know of a bank account (a basic bank account) that can be set up where the ID checks carried out are purely on paper documents such as passport, driver's license, utility bills and not doing an electronic check against a credit reference agency?

Greatly appreciate it if anyone can answer the two questions.

Lowell threatened to kill me

I still have the voicemail. I was rude on the phone call and said I'm not paying them until either them or shopacheck remove their reference from my credit file.

I have 3 defaults from shopacheck on my credit file because my home collection agent left and no one ever came back.

They sold the 3 loans to Lowell who now have their own 3 defaults on my credit file FOR THE SAME 3 shopacheck defaults!!!!

Thats 6 defaults on my credit file for 3 loans. It's not even my fault that they haven't been paid.

I was very rude to Lowell for doing this without my permission and cancelled their calls and the guy calling back threatened to kill me if I don't pay.
It's not that I don't want to pay but shopacheck are supposed to be home collected loans and they are not collecting from me :(

Cabot Financial/Mortimer Clarke Solicitors County Court Claim Form

Hi All
I do hope someone can help me as I am in a situation that I have never been in before and do not have a clue how to proceed.
I have received a County Court Claim Form for County Court Business Centre Northamton. Claimant is Cabot Financial and solicitors Mortimer Clarke. The debt is for an orginal debt with JD Williams/Naturally Close for credit agreement from 05/04/2004. I did have an agreement with this company but due to financial hardship at that time was unable to keep up minimum payments due to escalating interest they added to the account. In all these years I have heard nothing until recently - letters from Cabot/Marlin/drydefairfax. I sent them a letter in April saying I was under the impression that this was now statute barred. This was then passed to Mortimer Clarke and I have now got the county court letter.
I really don't know what to do, without sounding ignorant I just don't understand this process. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.
